Celebration Balloons Party Redhead Flapper 50s

PA PA POW!!! You did it!!!!

It’s time to celebrate what you’re doing, what you’ve already done and what you’re achieving right now. Go on do it. Throw your hands up in the air and scream ‘YEAH!’. You may think ‘well I haven’t really done anything? I get up, go to work, pay my bills, see my friends and just carry on’ – but do you not think that warrants a celebration?!

You make the effort to see your friends and family, you organise your bills, your social life, you work hard – you deserve to celebrate. Doing the everyday things we do, are accomplishments, they may not feel like it, but believe me they are.

Let me tell you a little more about me. I am working in a mediocre admin job, which I find incredibly boring and dis-satisfying. But I did it because I wanted to move to London and try that out, so I transferred with my company. And I love this city! This has allowed me to meet and hang out with so many different awesome people, go see great things, have many amazing nights out and I am incredibly happy with that. I seized an opportunity and reaped the benefits (surely what life is all about right?).

I am also saving a huge chunk of my earnings to allow me to do my world tour next year. It’s difficult and I often find I’m struggling because of that, but it’s okay because that is what I have to/want to do – to reach my goal.

I did once have my dream job as a journalist…and I hated it. Parts of it I loved, but the majority of it..I HATED. So as a result of reaching my career goal and then realising it was making me incredibly unhappy, I unfortunately had a bit of a meltdown. It was a horrible, horrible time. But thankfully (and especially) due to the people in my life I got through it.

And during that time, I learnt the most valuable lesson of all – that YOU MAKE YOUR OWN HAPPINESS. No-one else can do it for you. Only YOU knows what makes your heart skip a beat, your tummy tingle, you smile like a buffoon! Once you realise that, I cannot tell you how much simplier life seems. You just do what makes you feel happy. End of.

Making EVERY DAY an excuse to giggle/dress up/be silly/have fun...my Goho mantra!

Now, although my job dis-satisfies me, my work does not. Writing this blog is the best thing I’ve ever done because I’m deliriously happy and excited to be doing it! And making my wish to travel around the world into a reality, makes me even happier! It always seemed like it was this huge, complicated thing to do/sort but really all I have to do is save money and then I’m off!

We all have the potential to be the happiest people that we can possibly be – it is completely in our hands to achieve this (it also helps having that very important PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). I remember realising this for the first time and it was just like that moment in Clueless when Cher realises she loves Josh (the Oh MY GOD I LOVE JOSH!!! moment). But it was me going “OH MY GOD THIS IS ALL UP TO ME!!”

OH MY GOD I LOVE....er...LIFE!!!

That doesn’t mean that grumpy days are out of the question – of course not! Sometimes it’s nice to revel in a bit of grumpiness and the I-want-to-stay-in-bed-all-day-and-not-speak-to-a-soul attitude.

In fact one of my favourite things to do is to lie in bed and catch up with the TV shows/movies that I love. Sometimes that means not leaving my bed for an entire day. I guess that can make me seem kinda grumpy but it’s not it just makes me feel better to have some me-time for a bit.

Yesterday, I wanted to do just that, as I’m just so tired this week but rather than hiding under my duvet, I had a night out that made me feel even better! I hadn’t seen my best friend Bec in around 3 weeks and so I headed to hers for a catch-up. And I’m really glad I did – because that made me feel even better than a night in with Nancy Botwin on Weeds. So sometimes it’s great to push ourselves to do things that are even more positive – and seeing friends of course, is very high on that list!

It’s up to us guys. Just be happy, keep going and celebrate however you see fit! You deserve it my friend!

My celebratory suggestions are:

  • A dinner party
  • A fancy dress night in (in front of the TV, wherever you like)
  • A bubble bath
  • A catch-up with friends
  • A dance-off in your bedroom
  • A night in bed watching Weeds or Clueless (or whatever you feel like really)
  • A baking session
  • A trip to a fabulous tea room
  • A naughty shopping trip (I feel Cher would approve with this one most don’t cha think??!) 😉Advice Future Positivity Life Note

    Hey Em,
This post sure made me feel better, after a crappy deadline day! Am with you on the dream job maybe not being your dream job after all! But, it’s only eight hours a day, and then I get to go home to the funniest, most loving man in the world, and get to spend all week with him in the sunshine of Spain next week! 🙂
As much as I’m enjoying reading these lead-up to the big event blogs, I cannot wait to find out what madness you’ll actually get up to on your trip of a lifetime! I am living vicariously through you, until I get to go to LA and Hawaii on honeymoon next year!!! (I am SOO mega excited!). Still get to have my adventures with Vic and Heather though, we’re off to Prague in July!
Thanks for brightening up my day (especially with the Clueless refs!!!)
