2012 Resolutions

Well it’s that time of year again, where we’ve gotta get thinking about what we want to do and what we want to change next year (tomorrow OMG!).

It was a few New Year’s years ago that I got thinking about making some big changes in my life – New Years has a way of doing that to you. I wasn’t happy staying at home, I felt bored, knew I had to leave the parental nest to see bigger and better things. At first I looked at going to China to teach English (I was certainly looking for a great escape), then I looked at Japan. But I think it then occured to me I wanted to have a bit of fun closer to home for a while first…& so then I made the steps to move to London.

I have to say that it was the best decision I have ever made. I have had a ball, met the most incredible people (including my awesome boyfriend 😉 and my new best friends), been to really fun and interesting places – I feel I have made the most wonderful memories here). But even after settling in London, I knew I was still going to have to travel even further, to really feel fulfilled. And so the saving began and the rest is history.

Without London I would have never had these loves...<3 ❤

I went to Chicago in February this year on my own (see: Chicago in Winter) and loved it because it was unusual and big old brave step for me to take. Doing that I realised, that when you really want to do something, you HAVE to do it. Why hold back? Who cares if no-one else can go with you! Just do it! The greatest lesson I learnt this year is to TAKE RISKS and take many of them. As a result of doing that trip, I knew I could go even further and see much more of the world if I wanted to – and I really, really, wanted to do it so why not?!

Don't say no to Birthday Blizzards, say GO!!! Yay for winter adventures in Chicago, they inspired me to start this blog! 🙂

So now the trip is booked, I have bought my backpack, started my vaccinations and been wearing-in my walking boots. I AM READY FOR YOU WORLD!

So this year’s resolutions for TWO-THOUSAND-AND-DELVE:

  • To appreciate every day, even when it seems hard.
  • To be more grateful for everything I have and for the people that I have in my life. (and to remember that when the bad days come – writing gratitude lists is key to maintaining that),
  • To keep in touch with everyone (even from half way around the world).
  • To not spend money un-necessarily. Money is for amazing times not ‘amazing’ items.
  • To write, write, write.
  • To read more books (something tells me those long train journeys will come in handy for that one).
  • To continue to take risks & experience new things.
  • To find a course to do when I return.
  • To research living in a new part of the UK.
  • To look into having voila lessons at some point (the musical instrument I quit when I was younger).
  • To LOVE every moment on this trip – even the tough parts.

Resolutions don’t always have to be taken seriously but I do think they are a great way of really driving your focus towards something you really want to do. If we look at mine again from last year Recap on Resolutions, I can say I achieved 14 out of 17 of those resolutions, and I’m really proud of that. My biggest one, of course, was to make my around-the-world trip a reality – and I’ve done that 🙂 So I am a very happy girl :). You don’t have to have a huge list, maybe just jot down a few things that you’d really like to achieve and just have a look at how you’d go about doing them (just doing that will make you feel pretty accomplished).

Just go for it! Do whatever you think will make you really happy. Whether it’s doing a course, getting a candyfloss machine or going to Timbuktu! It’s not a crazy thing to do, it’s a sensible thing to do because it will make 2012, your best year yet!

Happy New Year Gohos! May all your adventures come true!

Love & sparklers Em xoxo
