Happy New Year!

Photo on 2012-12-01 at 11.16 #2

This is our 2nd new year at Gohemian Travellers, since our birth on Feb 2010! (Not long til our 2nd birthday yay!)….so I just want to wish you all a very wonderful new year!

My tips for happiness in 2013 are as follows:

  • Do everything you want this year (there is nothing to stop you!).
  • Get a job which really fulfills you (I’m working on this one too).
  • Have loads of fun with your friends and family – don’t buy things for your loved ones, take them somewhere fabulous and enjoy a really grand experience together.
  • Make yourself feel really good, only in the ways YOU know how (go on a diet, join the gym, buy a car…but only if it makes you happy).

All the best my loves, you guys are the reasons I keep writing, so thank you for reading, keep it up and keep adventuring and I’ll see you on the other side!

Well, fellow writer Michelle Ryan has sent it a great post about the most reliable and adventurous holiday destinations to get y’all inspired! How good is that?!

I especially love her references to Illinois and Paris…they are fabulous! Click on the links to read my posts about my trips there, I loved them both! 🙂 Everywhere else I would love to go to…I’m so adding them to my travel love-bucket list right now! Oh Bora-Bora take me there this very second!

And as we all enjoy a little vacation inspiration, I recommend you put down your shopping bags and lists for Santa to grab a hot cup of cocoa, put your feet up for a minute and read on…

Most adventurous Holidays on Gohemian Travellers Blog

Image c/o Michelle Ryan

Holidays are the best time to move around and have fun. Sometimes, they have to be spent very wisely. If you are interested in tours, you can visit many holiday destinations all over the world. Have a glance on a few adventurous and must visit sites:

  • Paris

It’s a magical place. You find congenial surprises each time you visit this place. For newly married couples, this is the best place to revel in. Besides Eiffel Tower, Musee du Louvre (a huge fine art gallery), Jardin des Tuileries (Parisian landscapes), CafĂ© de Flore (an historic cafĂ©) is the top famous sites to be visited.

  • Istanbul

Istanbul is one of the most famous places in Turkey. It’s the place where ‘fashion’ is on oomph. It has a 3000years of Roman history. Chaise longue treasures and modern piers take away the hearts. It’s called the ‘kid-friendly’ metropolis where, you find a plenty of overwhelming lures intended especially for kids.

  • Sydney

It’s one of my favourite places. One certainly gets flabbergasted spending in Sydney. It’s called “The Hub of Adventure seekers”. It’s a cosmopolitan city where you find all types of work culture. It’s the best place to take a stretch. The climate here mesmerises the hearts. The neighbourhood is simply breath-taking.

  • Beijing

Beijing is the most beautiful scenic place. The culture here is a combo of ancient and modern civilizations.  It’s the perfect place that keeps you dumbfounding every minute. You come across many surprises at each place you visit. It’s a podium of several theme parks, museums, gardens and historic emporiums.

  • Machu Picchu

It’s the most famous and astounding places in South America. It’s an interesting place to trek and called to be the “Trekker’s Pilgrimage”. The peaks here are tucked deep.  It’s the dream destination for backpackers. Several trekkers come to trial here. This place is always engaged. Especially during holidays, this stands as the paradise.

  • Bora Bora

It’s a small Island located in French Polynesia. Holiday makers can delight in the offers here. You can experience swimming, sunbathe and a 4×4 Safari near the white sandy beaches. You can plunge in the exciting ‘Under Water Park’. To be more specific, Bora Bora is an outstanding romantic spot.

  • Illinois

The most incredible Chicago’s ‘Art Institute’ and ‘Field Museum’ entices the people. These can’t be missed. The shows in Chicago theatre is one of the interesting places ought to be visited. Shopping is the soul of Chicago. This is the place where you find a lot of weekly shops in the arcades.

  • Marrakech

It’s a place where history, tradition and culture are being followed from times immemorial. This is the most level-headed place where you see the visitors all through the year. If you can spend the fall, winter and spring seasons here, it’s the heaven on earth. The people here are very welcoming.

Thus are few reliable and adventurous places where you can devote yourselves during holidays. Believe, you can relish at most. Don’t delay any more, take Payday Loans and book the tickets instantly to trip the possible places.

Winter Fashion: Staying Cosy in This Darn Weather

So it’s officially bloody freezing now! Oh my lord! But the awesome thing about that is getting dressed for the cold, lots of layers, wraps and wooly softness to snuggle into…yay!

So here are a few of my hot picks for what to wear in that oh-so-cold weather!

My first look is one of my favourites…sporty t-shirt smartened up with a tight pencil skirt, woolly scarf, leggings and fluffy slipper boots 🙂 Cosy, cosy cute.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I call it the Olive Oyl look, it’s one of my favourites. I think you can achieve a lot of versatility with this mixture of layers. You could wear thick print tights, with biker boots, heeled ankle boots, knee highs, brogues. Put a thick cardigan with it, put a wooly hat on….seriously easy and perfect for work/meeting friends for drinks. I love it!

My T-Shirt was from Forever 21, Skirt from Dorothy Perkins (thanks to Compton Hospice charity shop), scarf by Full-Circle, Necklace by Vivienne Westwood, booties from Primark.

My next look is for all you Wednesday Addams fans out there! This dress is my favourite purchase of the season! This dress is why Primark is all kinds of awesome.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I mean finding a Wednesday Addams dress with a cute skater skirt kick, I was a very happy girl indeed. And it only cost me ÂŁ15. I’ve had endless compliments about this frock. I work mine with a little cameo brooch at the collar, thick tights and knee high leather boots. J’ADOREEE!

Next up is the classic Christmas jumper! Another Primark favourite, I haven’t been able to take this baby off since I bought it.

I think wearing shirt or Peter Pan collared dress underneath looks awesome too, if you put the collar over the jumper. Very cute!

Next up is another bargainous dress I got, which is the perfect winter layer-upper. This navy number from River Island (Found in Shelter charity shop on Holloway Road – a very awesome charity to help homelessness), it cost me ÂŁ12 and is a lovely stretchy, heavy dress that flows around your legs and clings to all the right places. Without a top underneath, you could really work this as a party frock to show off your assets and dress it up with some vintage brooches. By day you could rock it with a t-shirt underneath or even a polo neck jumper, thick leggings and woolly bootie slippers. What do you think?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Dress by River Island (at Shelter), flying birds T-shirt by Realitee at Topshop, leggings from Primark, hat and purple wool bootie slippers by Tu at Sainsbury’s.

Next up is the classic ‘boyfriend’ sweater. It’s my biggest tip for this winter…go to the guys section of Primark. There are so many cute over-sized shirts, sweaters, t-shirts, cardigans. Is there anything warmer than wrapping an oversized guys top around you? Non!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I love this sweater so much. I think anything that gives you travel-inspiration as you wear it, is a real winner. I’ve never been to Copenhagen…now I have a daily reminder in my wardrobe to get over there 🙂 I think this gem is going to look great with my red gingham pencil skirt, it looks great with these super festive stripy leggings, it will look awesome with regular jeans and my red and black leopard-print ones 🙂 A very exciting, warm, addition to my wardrobe I think.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Then we all want to look that bit smarter on occasions, and a blouse may not be the warmest but team it with some thick sparkly leggings, boots, a camisole underneath and a vintage fur coat and you are all set for the party season my love! All from Primark and of course, all bargains!

What have you been wearing in the cold? Like my looks? Then tell me! Comment below and on Facebook and Twitter…I’d love to hear from you.

Blue eyes, woolly hat, Garfield Teddy Bear Toy

Under Pressure and Dealing With the End of Year Blues

Anyone else feeling that end-of-year pressure? I know we all have lots to look forward to but sometimes the end of the year can get you thinking (and not in a good way).

The end of a year can bring many things. For some people it’s lots of positive memories, for others it can bring lots of stress and sudden pressure. At the moment I feel the latter, as much as I don’t want to, but I do.

And most of my feelings lately all revolve around fear. As I listened to this song the other day…

…It got me thinking about our big worries in life, and how really they only bother us because they are all based within our fears. Worries are just fear dressed in sheep’s clothing. We worry about where we went wrong in the year, we worry about whether our work is making a difference, whether our life has meaning and then we just worry some more about our relationships and if they are going to stand the test of time. I mean why? Why do we do it to ourselves?

Ultimately we are all just fearful that our lives are going to end without achieving any real satisfaction. And we are thinking all of this before our ‘lives’ have even started. I mean we’re only in our 20s!

I’ve read a number of articles recently about how life in your 20s has become too highly pressurised.  Instead of a mid-life crisis, we are starting to hit a quarter life crisis instead. Interesting eh? But absolutely true. The new vision for your 20s now seems to be drenched in nihilism and a whole ‘make or break’ policy. Because if you haven’t made it, you’ve failed at it.

After all we are expected ‘make it’ in our:

  • Careers
  • Relationships
  • Travels (you’re expected to have done a gap year at least once in this time)
  • Life-choices

Because once you hit 30 that all changes apparently. Our priorities turn to babies, marriage and mortgages…or so they say. We all know this is bull (it’s not like your 30th birthday hits you and then your mindset just shifts), yet we still set these ridiculous goals and timeframes for ourselves. Bad idea kids, bad idea. All it does, is cause you stress the F out, and yet we still do it.

Luckily I’ve read some awesome books which can help us overcome these irrational fears. First up is Undecided by Barbara and Shannon Kelley:

ndecided book by Barbara and Shannon Kelley

This book focuses on the pressure that is put on 20-somethings to succeed. This book is revolutionary in emphasising the pressures on our so-called ‘easy’ lives. It’s true, we have had  a completely different upbringing to our parents. We had more to play with, better education, technological advances open to us and more choice. And we are grateful for every aspect of that, but it’s the plethora of choices we are suddenly faced with, which has become the big problem.

“Unlike her mother she was born of a generation blessed with limitless choices–and of a generation that has found that the more choices you have, the harder, it is to find happiness. It’s a generation that appears to have everything yet can’t help feeling that things are just not right.” Undecided – Page 16.

This book will make you realise you are definitely not the only person out there who thinks this way. It’s especially good for those drifters amongst us (like me), who have drifted from job to job, had their successes and many failures and have tried to change things around so much that it’s made their heads spin! I have had so many ideas about careers and courses I need to take to better myself, that it boggles my mind! I think now is the time to just focus on ONE thing – doing whatever makes you the happiest. For me, that is working on THIS BLOG!

Blogging with flowers and feathers in my hair joy

In reality I think they are all very valid concerns to think about. We all need direction in life after all. We need to know we are going in the right direction and we all need to feel valued. At the moment I probably don’t feel either, but I am doing my best to try and change that.

Another great book which has got me through many hard times is Happiness Now! By Robert Holden.

happiness-now book robert holden

This book is magic for reminding you that you do deserve to be happy. We all deserve it. We just play crazy mind tricks on ourselves to tell us that we don’t. Robert words everything very simply, uses lots of personal examples and even cases that he has encountered. He also reminds us that it is up to ourselves to attract happiness…if we push it away and think we don’t deserve pure joy, then we, quite simply, won’t receive it.

“At the precise moment you need love and care, you administer a course of personal abuse and neglect. By refusing to love and be kind to yourself, you’re punishing yourself, playing out your guilt, atoning for your weakness and ‘getting what you think you deserve’…as long as you believe you are guilty you” continue to attract unhappiness…In fact, you will experience as much unhappiness as you believe you deserve.” Happiness Now! Kindle location – 1633

Everything you read in this book seems very obvious once you’ve thought about it. I mean of course if you’re not open to being happy, you won’t be happy – you’ll stay being miserable. But at the time that just doesn’t occur to you. I found this book revolutionary for changing my thinking…it’s a Godsend, especially at this time of year.

I also read recently that a study conducted by the British Heart Foundation discovered that each of us has an average of six regrets and spends the equivalent of about five days a year dwelling on them. Quoted in The Metro on November 23 2012, journalist Tariq Tahir quoted psychologist Dr Gayle Brewer saying: “Many of us seem resigned to the idea that is impossible to live out our dreams for a variety of reasons. Often it is not seizing opportunities that we regret. And it’s not until later that we realise how important they really were.”

I am terrible for focusing on my ‘failures’ and regrets, especially when a year comes to a close, I get so stressed out about it all. But then I found this picture….

healthylifestyleplus.com positive message no regrets

Image c/o: healthylifestyleplus.com

…And it instantly made me feel better, because isn’t it true? We made those decisions at a time, when they were the right ones to make. I’ve made that picture my wallpaper on my work computer because I have to stare at that damn thing all day…hehe.

So some additional POSITIVITY is required!

imgfave.com positive quotes

I am making baby-steps to feel better right now. I am signing up for more blog-related things than ever before. I mean I went to WTM (although it was last-minute) but it inspired me, so as I result of that I signed up for a WordPress course at college, then I signed up for The Blogcademy next year (sooooo excited!), then the Travel Bloggers Unite conference (which I’m super excited about – as that will mean a very spontaneous trip to somewhere in Europe and boy do I need some spontaneity in my life again!). Lots of options but they make me happy – so I have to go towards them.

My blog makes me believe I have a purpose. I want to make this site into the best brand that it can possibly be, I want to inspire other people to be happy and inspired, I want to live a life doing what I love. So I have to focus on it very, very hard. It’s difficult when you feel like other people don’t share your dreams – often they don’t understand it. I mean some people think, if it’s not bringing in a regular salary then why are you bothering with it? Well because one day it might and if you don’t try to make it amazing…well, then you’ll never know (you can apply that one to anything – the motto of that tale is JUST GO FOR IT! Take it to the stars and let the universe decide).

So my tips for ensuring contentment in your 20s are to embrace these ideas instead:

  • Don’t set aged-based goals, you’ll just stress yourself if they don’t happen.
  • Don’t ever think you have to settle for anything (only ever go for what you really want).
  • Make decisions that make you happy (go on your around-the-world trip, change your job, move to another city).
  • Rely on yourself. No one else can make you a deliriously happy individual (you can’t expect that of someone), you have to figure all that out on your own first. (Radical Self Love baby, a la Gala Darling: ).
  • Try and just roll with it a little (don’t look to the future too much).
  • Talk to your friends about it – they may feel the same…

  • Continue to educate yourself (read, join online forums, do a night course – learning is a great way to constantly stay focused and appetised).
  • Don’t get bogged down by the idea of being a ‘manager’ or ‘married’ or a ‘mother’ by a certain age, make your biggest, shiniest goal just BEING HAPPY. That simple. You will reap what you sow, guaranteed.

Loving of Late: Cute Christmas Adverts

Photo c/o Favim.com

Well we haven’t done a Loving Of Late post in a while, so here we go with a festive edition.

As it’s getting to that time of year again, all the Christmas adverts have been starting on TV and they just get you feeling all fuzzy inside, right? I, for one, was very moved by this year’s John Lewis ad, I mean isn’t it just adorable?

Anything to do with a snowman making an epic journey (apart from The Snowman hilariously – as I have an irrational fear/hatred for it) and I just go all mushy. I do love a good snowman story.

Soooooooo cute!!! And then do you remember last year’s John Lewis ad? Oh my god that killed me….sooo sooo sweet!

I want that child…bless his cotton socks.

And then you can always rely on M&S to make a cute ad…I mean cute little baby outfits…

(The smart suits for little gentlemen was my favourite hehe). PS: I am NOT broody…just merely enjoying some Christmas cuteness hehe.

But the ad that really has got my hairs standing on end this year..is this little gem:

I just love it. It’s like being part of Toy Story, which for me, is like the ultimate treat – I’d love to do that. Hop on a moped with Barbie?! I’d be there in a flash!

What do you think? Which did you like the best?

Also another great Christmas video…

Like many others, I always use that video as an indicator that it really is Christmas! Because the holidays are a-comin, holidays a-comin la la la! Merry Coca-Cola Christmas woo! Hurrah indeed! As soon as I see Coca-Cola and Starbucks Red Cups, I get all giddy with Christmas glee…

What makes you feel festive? Have you been enjoying the Christmas ads or are they driving you nuts already? Let me know by commenting below or on:

Happy Thanksgiving World (So Let’s Be Thankful)

Be-Thankful-scrabble tiles

As it’s thanksgiving over the pond, so how abouts we have a day ourselves, to think about what we are thankful for.

I’m a big fan of gratitude lists, I think they are a great way of making yourself feel more positive. We all have things we know we need to count our blessings for, it’s just we can sometimes forget them. So Thanksgiving is the perfect opportunity to get start feeling grateful again.

Lately I’ve been feeling very low, so this is just what the doctor ordered. It really is the perfect positivity task to do.

So here’s my list. You should write one too (it’s very theraputic).

I am grateful…. :

  • To have a loving boyfriend. I don’t appreciate how loving he is and how much he cares really but lately I have been more aware of it and I want to appreciate that. ❀
  • To have an amazing family. My mom and dad are my rocks, they offer me so much support and love it is overwhelming. My auntie and uncle are like my second parents and I adore them so much it hurts, I just wish i could see them more often.
  • To have so many wonderful friends. They are like my source of happiness – they keep me topped up with joy every day.
  • To have great colleagues, I may not enjoy my job but my colleagues really keep me going and laughing through the monotony.
  • To have a lovely roof over my head and a cosy bed. I do really love my new London home.
  • To have a healthy body.
  • To have the world at my fingertips. The internet offers so much opportunity and I love spending time researching the blogosphere and the amazing opporunities out there.
  • To have a healthy, happy relationship with food – boy do I love eating.
  • To have a wage coming in next week (roll on payday! c’mon), because without that, I’d really be stuck. To have money coming in is a great thing indeed, because it allows you the freedom you need to live and enjoy life. There’s never enough of it admittedly, but at least there’s something over nothing.
  • To have done a trip around the world this year (I mean what a huge privilege!).
  • To have reconnected with an old friend, after not seeing her for a few years…and just picking up where we left off (I love that! A sign of true friendship indeed).

Now for a selection of happy pictures which make me smile…
